5 Best Moisturizing Shampoo for Type 4 Hair

Dear Pretty Black girl, You are dripping with melanin and…
Okay, naturals let’s talk about the best moisturizing shampoo for type 4 hair! Yes, there is such a thing. It’s no secret many naturals despise shampooing their hair. Not because they don’t want to but because of what Shampoo tends to do to your mane. It strips the hair of all of its natural oils and leaves it dry.
Can I be honest? I’ve been natural going on three years (in October) and I hated shampooing my hair. You’re looking at the former queen of co-wash. ACV was once my best friend along with Mielle Organic detangling co-wash. But I have graduated to bigger and better things. Your girl has leveled up in her regimen LOL. I can’t remember the last time I co-washed my hair.
See last year I attended Naturally Curly, “Texture on The Runway,” in NYC and boy am I glad I attended this event. The swag bag they gave to us at the end exposed me to some amazing gems. I’m talking about amazing quality products. One of those products happened to be my go-to moisturizing shampoo at the current moment. This is probably the BEST shampoo on the market for type 4 hair right now (keep reading to find out). I’ve made some changes to my regimen and I will be posting the updated version of my regimen soon. When I developed my first regimen last summer, it was to help with detangling and retaining moisture. Now that I’ve spent the last eight months training my hair. This year I’m making some changes to my regimen focusing solely on length retention. I feel like my hair is very healthy right now and health = growth. It’s time for this baby to thrive!

So naturals in order for hair to grow your scalp must be clean. As naturals, we use a lot of products which lead to product buildup. Which tends to weigh down your hair with old product residue. So the best way to ensure all the buildup is removed is to use a clarifying shampoo. If your hair follicle is clogged up there is no room for hair to grow out of your scalp. Now don’t get wrong, I’m not saying ACV or using any form of co-wash products does not clean your scalp. But what I am saying is you want to ensure you are using a clarifying shampoo at least twice a month for those of you who wash your hair weekly and or once a month for those who wash bi-weekly. Especially for my naturals who love to style their hair regularly and reapplying products like gel, heavy cream and oils.
Please, please make sure you are clarifying your hair regularly. Shampoo gets the job done every single time. Now I don’t know about anyone else but I want to make sure I’m doing all that I can so my hair will flourish the way it supposed to with a clean and healthy scalp. There are some naturals who can get away with using co-wash and ACV for weeks at a time and some not so much. I’ve heard some naturals say they cannot afford to not use shampoo every time they wash. No matter what category you fall under just know Shampoo gives you a clean slate every time for styling.
BEST MOISTURIZING SHAMPOO
Okay so if you kept reading I bet you’re still wondering what’s this shampoo I’m raving about. What is the shampoo that changed the queen of co-wash mind and got her shampooing every Wash day? Well, drum roll, please! The first two products were in my swag bag and I’m absolutely in love with both shampoos. The other three after doing some research and reading through some reviews online seem to do also do the trick as far as detangling your hair without stripping away all of the natural oils. A great shampoo is a moisturizing shampoo that’s able to clarify your hair without stripping your hair and leaving it dry and tangled.
1.) Mielle Organics Pomegranate & Honey Moisturizing and detangling Shampoo: This shampoo is by far MY favorite shampoo right now. I can actually wash my hair and detangle it with this shampoo. Before I could not dare to detangle my hair during the shampoo process. With this product, a little goes a long way. I’m so happy to have found this product. Both the Pomegranate and honey shampoo and conditioner were in my swag bag and I’m on my second bottle of the conditioner (which I re-purchased with my own money) that’s how good both products are.

2.) The Mane Choice Heavenly Halo Herbal Hair Tonic & Soy Milk Deep Hydration Shampoo: Another product included in my swag bag and I like this shampoo. I have not used it as much because I’ve been using the Mielle non-stop.
3.) Alikay Naturals Moisturizing Black Soap Shampoo: I saw some awesome reviews about shampoo. This is another one of my favorite brands because of the quality of their product ingredients.
4.) As I Am Curl Clarity Shampoo: While I was searching through reviews I noticed a lot of naturals with 4c hair said this product left their hair clean, soft and not dry. So for my 4c naturals looking for a good moisturizing shampoo be sure to check this one out.
5.) African Pride Moisture Miracle Shampoo, Honey & Coconut, Nourish & Shine: I know many naturals complain a lot about how expensive these natural hair products tend to be. I stumbled upon this brand last year on a trip to North Carolina. See I flew out from NYC with my As I Am “twisting defining cream,” another gem from the swag bag and it was taken from me by a TSA agent at the airport in NYC. When I got to Charlotte I went to Walmart to repurchase the product. Then I saw the price and I was like I’m only going to be here for a few days and I thought about 10,000 products (I’m exaggerating but my product stash is deep) I have back at home. So I opted to try African Pride leave-in cream for less cheap and it is Bomb dot come for twist outs. So I don’t doubt the reviews I’ve seen for this shampoo. You can find this shampoo at Walmart for $4.49 and Sally’s for $4.99.
